Gonna call the first lighting test a MASSIVE SUCCESS. This is with only two bulbs, too! I need to redo the inner bulb holder to lower the lights down by about an inch and a half, but other than that I couldn’t be happier! Hot DAMN!

The lamp is starting to take shape! (And size! The top piece had to be split into 4 parts in order for it to fit on the printer, so those won’t be done until tomorrow or Wednesday (then I have to print the finneal for the top). Hope to have it lit up and working in just a few days!

As an explainer for what this is, it’s me trying to finish a project I started last year around this time. I decided I wanted to make replica pillars from the Haunted Mansion for Halloween decorations, but never finished them. They’re CLOSE, but I couldn’t find a good lamp for the top last year.

One of the fun things about our printer having a camera is you get to watch it do SUPER RAD STUFF from the inside. Kinda proud of this, since I sculpted it myself and it’s looking SO GOOD.

Used the upgrade to iOS 26 (mixed bag, naturally) as an excuse to update my lock screen to make use of the new clock font choice. Wish I could set the typeface for the date widget, but naturally, Apple doesn’t want you to have TOO much control.

This might actually take the cake for the most BIZARRE interaction I’ve ever had, and the only reason I share it at all is because I feel like I have to put this weirdness out into the universe.

This is my first test of the beating heart IN the doll body, placed where it will actually be on the stand in relation to the induction coil, and it looks ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. The LED is about 4.5” from the coil, and TECHNICALLY can go about 6.5” from it before it dies. This is SO COOL.

Nothing makes me feel peak “Dad Mode” like replacing a faulty light switch. :D

HELL YES. Proof of concept for PWM (Pulse Wave Modulation) dimming of an inductive LED using a MOSFET as the gate! This isn’t the final pulse cycle - I’ll tweak that tomorrow, but it’s getting the full brightness and doing the dimming seamlessly! Woohoo!

Printed a new version of the heart that increases the diffusion a little better and distracts from the “two points of light” vibe a bit. (Basically I just moved the LEDs further from the surface and gave them more resin to shine through - does the trick!)

On friday, I did 2 laps. That’s 0.7 miles. Today, I did SIX laps, AFTER walking Parker to the bus stop. That’s 2.6 miles! I’m makin’ it happen, y’all!

Now that both kids are in school, I decided it’s time to get my overweight ass in shape by getting back to walking every morning. I used to do a daily 3-mile walk for years, so I figured I’d just get back on that bandwagon. I mean, I literally used to do it without breaking a sweat, should be easy.

I mean, not to come back to this, but god DAMN. I remembered last night when I was watching it that there was a part where the music started to echo the James Horner Wrath of Khan theme. It was so goddamn perfect in every way. I repeat: we NEED a Star Trek Year One show. I need more of this Kirk.
