On this day, in 1973, the last US troops left Vietnam. My mom's 1st cousin, Colonel Joseph William Brand; U.S. Air Force pilot from Illinois; killed in action August 17, 1966, after his F-105F Thunderchief was shot down over North Vietnam. Remains identified as Col. Brand were repatriated in 1977.
