#IHadThatComic: June 15, 1976 #Avengers 151 - Ground Zero for my #comics obsession. This issue featured pretty much every character in the Marvel universe, and I was fascinated by such a connected world. Some heroes were only mentioned, and I drew them in (terrible) costumes of my own design.

His doppelgänger is unconscious long before Cap runs out of things to say, so he turns to his audience. Best. Captain America. Speech. Ever. This was written in 1984. Thank you #PeterGillis.

#IHadThatComic: June 11, 1999 #LouisRiel 1 - #ChesterBrown has one of the best "cameras" in comics, so while there are long passages where nothing very exciting happens, the storytelling is exquisite and the pages are never boring. It also includes Brown's elaborate research notes.

OTD in 2018, @tomtaylormade.bsky.social and @mahmudasrar.bsky.social released #X-Men Red 5. This series was outstanding, full of good humor and desperately-needed hope. We needed this then, and need it even more now. If you missed it you should check it out. #IHadThatComic

I Had That Comic: May 31, 1988 Animal Man 1 - Grant Morrison reboots a forgotten character, makes him relevant, and begins the trend of super-heroes wearing jackets. While there was a clear "Be Alan Moore" mandate for the first 4 issues, it quickly becomes something else entirely.

I Had That Comic: May 29, 1984 Captain America 297 - Looks like it's @jmdematteis.bsky.social week! Red Skull's Deus Machina "creates realities out of mindstuff," so by saving Jack, Cap *actually* saved Bucky, retroactively causing the Russians to find Bucky's body and create the Winter Soldier.

OTD in 2019, @redgoldsparks.bsky.social's remarkable memoir #GenderQueer was released. This remains the one of the most challenged/banned book in libraries, and needs our protection. Beautiful, heartfelt and wonderfully/painfully honest, this is what graphic novels are for. #IHadThatComic

I Had That Comic: May 28, 1991 Moon Knight 28 - The key issue of @jmdematteis.bsky.social and Ron Garney's highly underrated Scarlet Redemption storyline. Moon Knight is resurrected a second time, with a clearer sense of his purpose: not to punish but to offer grace to those in need of it.

Anyone reading this feed is no doubt aware that we lost Peter David over the weekend. His run on the Hulk will almost certainly be his most memorable achievement in comics, but there was so much more.
