The birding was slow this afternoon on the northern end of #MalvernHills The highlight was at least 3 Redpoll near the top of Happy Valley. They were amongst a large mix tit flock which also held 3 Goldcrest, a Coal Tit and many Chiffchaff. #WorcsBirds

Northwick, Worcester this morning. Glossy Ibis present for a 3rd day but very quiet on the whole. The Roe Deer pair made an appearance. They didn’t see me for a good few minutes which was nice treat. #WorcsBirds

Longdon Marsh is so vitally important in Worcs, holding nationally important numbers of ducks during flood events. HCF has highlighted how important the area is year round now a natural habitat has been resored. How fantastic it would be to see it return back to what it naturally wants to be!

I noted 11 species of Butterfly at Northwick Brick Pits SSSI, Worcester this afternoon. 1 Purple Hairstreak feeding on nectar was quite a find. Possibly crossed the river from Hallow Park Wood. At least 23 Peacock on the Creeping Thistle. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @bc-westmids.bsky.social

I had to go back this afternoon to enjoy the Whinchat. Tricky bird to get close to as it’s now on the far side of the marsh. 2 Horsefly bites and a few nettle stings later and it was all worthwhile. A juv/female type Redstart was also close by. #WorcsBirds

That’s a turn up for the books. Thanks to a more experienced local birder suggesting that what I called a Sedge Warbler was indeed a Whinchat. Always distant & in the reeds the white stripe tricked me into Sedge. Cheers to Phil for confirming too. Always expect the unexpected #WorcsBirds
