The near daily barrage of deadly mass shootings in America feels like low level warfare against normal citizens who just want to live in peace. And because people keep electing Republicans who won’t do anything about it there’s no solution in sight.

Today the Trump administration federalized and deployed 200 National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon. This is a reckless abuse of power. Troops have no business policing our communities.

The battle of our day is no longer about Democrats versus Republicans or left versus right. The choice right now is democracy or dictatorship. And we're sliding faster than I ever thought possible into the latter. Everyone must choose which side they’re on.

A man was just chased and arrested outside of the Broadview ICE facility in Chicago. When legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild asked why, an agent threatened to arrest them too.

He’s not a doctor, but he plays one in the White House.

The State of Illinois is closely monitoring the federal deployments in the Village of Broadview. Public safety is always my top priority, and the Illinois State Police remains in close communication with the Broadview Police Department to monitor and maintain public safety.

I'm not a big MLS fan, but I see the Portland Timbers are playing all their games and even doing pretty well, despite playing in a war ravaged city. And Powell's Books, the world's largest independent bookstore, is holding book readings pretty much every night. Impressive. Like London 1940.

I'm glad to see House Democrats are pressing to get Rep-Elect Grijalva seated, because the fight over this is just a prelude to what the House Republicans will try in January 2027, when charges of "voter fraud" will lead to "serious questions" that will delay the seating of several new Democrats.

Premiums for Obamacare are about to go sky high unless subsidies are extended, millions will lose their healthcare, and this is what Trump tells Dems who want to sit down and negotiate.

For 26 but especially 2028 it's time for Democrats to make clear that the current Supreme Court will have to be reformed (expanded in number, reformed in structure) to allow popular govt to continue in the United States. Not so much a litmus test as precondition for any other promise to be credible.

Trump just ordered the military into Portland, and he’s giving them the green light to use lethal force on American citizens. Authoritarianism is an abstract concept but Trump is making its impacts real and tangible. Let’s be real about it: This is the beginning of dictatorship in America.

Nobody cares about the victims in the Dallas ICE shooting apparently. The first I've heard about one of them was on CNN today. He's fighting for his life in the hospital --- he was brought to the US when he was 13. He's 33 now. No criminal record. I just don't know what to say anymore.

War-ravaged Portland

Donald Trump is using federal agents to stoke fear and violate constitutional rights — all with the aims of expanding his control and sending military troops to our cities. It’s unlawful and un-American. We must all stand up and speak out against fanning the flames of violence.

Every single one of these clips was taken today in downtown Portland. Portland doesn’t want or need a federal takeover. If Trump insists on sending federal “resources” he can start with funding health care, bridges, affordable housing, and wildfire protection to name a few.

Russian strategic bombers are in the air, likely heading to bomb Ukraine. I cannot begin to describe the feeling of knowing that missiles will fall on your country in a few hours to murder someone. And yet, it happens to us again and again. Keep us in your thoughts.

While America faces a housing crisis, Trump’s top housing finance official is abusing his power to get revenge on Trump’s adversaries. Just another example of Trump and his Administration weaponizing the government for their own gain instead of lowering costs for Americans.

Portland is not "war ravaged." This is delusional and dangerous. Sending troops into American cities doesn't make our communities safer — it just stokes fear and stirs up chaos. Trump is plunging further into authoritarianism every single day.

Btw the answer to Speaker Johnson disenfranchising the voters who cast their ballots for Rep. Grijalva is NOT, “healthcare.”

The Trump Administrations does so much to endanger the health of women, from attacks on reproductive rights to cutting health care access for millions. And now they are to creating confusion and fear instead of real pathways to health and wellbeing.

Make no mistake: public pressure works. But remember, Trump will still try to abuse his power to pressure CEOs and silence his critics. And the dominance of these media giants is still a major problem. So to everyone who made a difference today, stay in the fight.
