The Flint Institute of Arts has an exhibition “MI Ink: The Art of Tattoo” highlighting Michigan talent and tattoo history. It’s pretty fun and not what you’d typically see at an art museum. I was so excited to see a What We Do in the Shadows tattoo!

I couldn’t decide which was funnier tonight, a grasshopper jump scaring me or catching a couple in the act, but I was just picking arugula leaves in the near dark when a raccoon came around the corner and we were almost face to face before it took off. I’m not sure which of us was more startled! 🌱

After wrapping up a mess of a project (months of working as fast as I can, tons of extra hours, firehose of updates), last night I had Kerrygold butter on graham crackers for dinner and watched an embarrassing number of Pyaari cat dress up videos. Please send an adult.

My kitchen has become endless ever-changing piles of drying herbs and flowers, especially for salts and teas. Cookie sheets in the stove, cutting boards layered on pans, half-filled jars everywhere. It smells wonderful. 🌱🍜

My first time harvesting fennel pollen, although I have no idea what I’ll use it for. I left lots for the wasps that are all over the plant. 🌱

Definitely not helping with the air quality in mid-Michigan.

More northern Michigan weirdness. Giant metal heads and the “World's Largest Steering Wheel.” The signage was vaguely threatening, so we didn’t get very close.

I feel extremely anxious in rural northern Michigan, but the roadside sights are top notch. Spotted today: a large skeletal chicken, life sized fiberglass bear and metal buffalo, a scarecrow riding a tractor, and signs for a “gospel tent revival,” elk crossing, and Amish buggy crossing.

Some things change. Some things don’t.

Roads in Lansing, Michigan, are the most flooded I’ve ever had to deal with. Stay home for a little while if you can.

Nightly firefly update: They are everywhere and I’m still terrible at recording them.

Giving blood in Flint, where they have a brand new machine that calculates your hemoglobin without a finger poke. And the ceiling tiles are always a good distraction.

At Lansing’s Makerspace making some of my worst ever cutting boards. Did a terrible job on the glue ups. Didn’t realize I had made bad angles on the jointer. @stablechaos.bsky.social tried to help me plane them into something useable. Gifts for my mom and stepdad, who won’t care anyway.

For years, my stepdad has been failing to convince my little nieces that Walled Lake has a monster named Wally. I used my library’s button maker to make magnets add to our family’s homemade collection of Wally Tshirts, ornaments, books, etc. I can already hear the girls yelling “Wally’s not real!”

Went out to pick raspberries and spotted a cardinal pair on the fence! They didn’t let me get very close before flying off. And the blackberries are finally, finally getting ripe. 🌱

Another awful work week. Excellent shopping at MSU Surplus, arts and crafts, People’s Kitchen burgers, and a couple glasses of wine have righted the world as much as it can be these days.
