As not much of a fan of Game of Thrones, I can't deny the Knight of Seven (or Nine) Kingdoms season 1 is quite excellent. Funny, quirky, harsh but not particularly gruesome, and surprisingly moving. Focus on a single interesting storyline (and character) helps immensely.

A full-page illustration I did for the Finnish cross-culture zine Manifetsi a few years back. Editor requested a vintage boxing poster between Mark Twain and Aleksis Kivi, and what you see here emerged. Yesterday's double feature: MARTY SUPREME and IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU. Both tense, but MARTY is the featherweight entertainment to LEGS, which is dense, hallucinatory, moving and mysterious. I had a great time with MARTY but LEGS will linger and haunt. #FilmSky

Saw NO OTHER CHOICE yesterday: a lumpy, badly paced, tonally off Westlake adaptation. There are fun scenes and it IS interesting because it moves unexpectedly, but that does not yet a good movie make. Of interest, not terrible, overlong, with a terrific soundtrack. #FilmSky

Tanith Lee's NIGHT'S MASTER read like a narration to a fabulous eastern european dark fantasy animation. Beautifully written, properly peculiar, yet -- for me -- lacked the necessary contact point to feel emotionally attached. Glad to have read it, but probably won't read the follow ups. #BookSky

Hard agree. Nacho Vigalondo did the terrific Timecrimes and this was part of I think Hulu making kind of offbeat sf/horror flicks early on.

Finished Willeford’s Pick Up (1955) and it was really excellent. Less quirky than his later work but just as existential. Any noir lit fans would be amiss not to read it, and it’s another good excuse to point to the “Any crime book worth a damn is a variation on Crime and Punishment” sign 🤌 #booksky

PHOENICIAN SCHEME makes for an oddly delicious double feature with ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS. Great fun, kind of an action film. I can't help thinking Wes Anderson would make a terrific Tintin feature film. Ligne claire. 🔥 #filmsky

Finally saw Howard Hawks' ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS. Terrific screenplay performed with gusto by a great cast, directed with panache. Of special interest to fans of early aviation and, especially, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Classic adventure filmmaking with wit, heart, romance and excitement. #FilmSky
