Emerging from the Southern Ocean in full gear after a Christmas shore dive. "Are you a sea monster?" Asks a small girl who stops playing on the beach to observe me removing my fins. "Almost certainly." I reply with a grin. "Sea monsters are cool!" The child beams. Sometimes humans are alright.

"Every human is fundamentally selfish and self-interested," She continued, "but the good ones recognize it, channel it in a way that doesn't burden others. The good ones are rare." "Very rare." He responded, still sorrowful. "Want to get out of here?" She asked, her black lips parting invitingly.

"I can't understand faith, but I think I understand morals." He mused, sad at the state of the world. "That's the rub," She replied with a slight smile to mask her own misanthropic thoughts, "most people have faith that their lack of morals doesn't matter."

I sort of feel like humanity lost the plot when it began equating personal interests with personal identity. A friend legitimately asked me if I've stopped making music because I'm "going diving now", as if I've had to just give up being a musician because I like swimming with cephalopods.

I got invited to join a mermaid group for an upcoming dive, I asked if I could get webbed claws and sharp teeth to really complete the look... To my surprise, they got the joke. Sadly, the answer was still no. I guess I'll have to limit the devouring of men to my time ashore.

Spending a lot of my free time in the water lately, it's become a bit of a respite from the world. I'd say it's the isolation, but you're never really alone in the ocean and it isn't silent at all if you know what to listen for.

I'm the kind of girl who will read 'Into the Drowning Deep' by Mira Grant two weeks before going open water diving in the Indian Ocean.

Started writing a short story about a "late night" call-in radio show set in space. Sort of a Coast to Coast AM for space truckers and interstellar haulers vibe. 2000 words in and I kinda want to turn this into a podcast.. wish I knew more VO artists.

I do appreciate when music technology companies celebrate diverse creators. But I kinda hate when they act like it's a brand new thing. It makes it feel disingenuous. I'm a pansexual Arab American goth girl, I've literally been doing this shit longer than most of these brands have existed.

I've never been the sort of musician that just makes sound just to be heard. A listen means nothing if I haven't sung something worth paying attention to. I know that's a bit of of a weird thing to hear in the age of playlists and thirty second attention spans.

So real talk, I've put together around 40 pieces of music since March. I quite like them all. But I still feel like I haven't quite captured what I want to say with any of them. It would be easy enough to put together an album and call it a day. If I were just after airplay, that's what I'd do.

My Halloween costume was "Musician who didn't meet her previously announced October release deadline." I'm pretty sure I won the costume contest.
