First completed piece in the new studio with the new kiln. My kiln is so small these had to be fired separately….only bc I couldn’t fit kiln posts on the shelf with either piece. Glaze flaws, so it will remain with me.

….and 25 days later, I have completed a planter set. Waiting for it to finish drying to put it through the first bisque firing in the kiln.

Back in my studio and the lilacs are blooming. It smells amazing outside and I can still throw pots after a 7 month break. Yay!

The moon, the trees, the snow, the shadows.

This is supposed to be my studio. I think it housed goats previously, judging by the smell. It needs….a lot. I haven’t made anything from clay since moving. So today I applied to join a studio where I can get work fired. Time to get back to it, when the old house closes next week.

Keeping the decorated tree up for now. It’s wintry and festive, and non-holiday specific. The tree itself was my mom’s and she called it her Solstice Tree. Twinkling lights on a snowy day just feel good.

A gift I received this year- I didn’t make the art, but I grew the artist myself. We’ve been thinking of getting a new (to us) cat- and I’ve been feeling gray tabby, like my first cat. Been nearly a year since we lost both our kitties in a particularly horrible 3 weeks (one to cancer, one old age)

I started late and didn’t keep count, but I guess this is the last one. Ornament I threw and altered (can anybody guess how?), I think 2 years ago? Took forever, and was definitely a bit of an experiment…one with good results that I probably won’t try to repeat. #ArtAdventCalendar

This is a little bit of an older one, a pot that I didn’t like the shape after throwing and altered it until I did. Then I added white underglaze to ovals on each side and did sgraffito. This pot depicts several stages of a starry rosinweed bloom, a FL native plant. #ArtAdventCalendar

While I respect snakes and their role in an ecosystem, I am not so good with them in person. Usually involves running and screaming on my part. That said, I love carving scales. On pots. That stay where they are and don’t slither out of unexpected places without warning. #ArtAdventCalendar

Some of my favorite subjects are native plants, usually ones I planted in my yard. This is blue-eyed grass, native in the eastern US. Done while experimenting with smaller carvings on tiny cups to test glaze results. This one was a success! #ArtAdventCalendar

How about my first relief carved piece- from 2022? Prior to this I’d done some carving of designs into the clay, but this was the first time I carved away to create a raised design. I still love this one though it’s very rough, and was not at all a planned design. #ArtAdventCalendar

This was the second iteration of this eyes and oak leaves design that I created for Halloween in 2023. The first wasn’t cut out, just carved. It’s a fun tea light holder. #ArtAdventCalendar

Textiles are another love of mine, and I’ve done a few pieces with carvings of textile designs. This one is based on a Honiton lace from the 19th century, if I’m remembering right. #ArtAdventCalendar

Post your current wallpaper I think this was my first rose, DA Emily Bronte. Bloomed beautifully it’s first year, and declined in the following years. Haven’t changed my wallpaper in a while.

6th Anniversary of the first time I saw this little face, in a puppy pic on the internet, and said “I think that’s my dog”….up late the night before Thanksgiving, browsing dogs… I’d been waiting so very long for a little guy like him.

Welp, probably should have bought a snow shovel yesterday. But my prior experience (from my life up to 20 years ago) said the snow wasn’t likely to stick…it’s barely dropped below freezing. I did plan to stay in today, at least.

Somebody just saw snow for the first time!

Having just moved from the south, where lizards get in the house with some regularity, to the north where we just don’t see lizards…. This spot on the floor keeps making us think there’s a baby lizard in the house. Floors are LVP- they’re scattered all over.
