Actually, social composition effects mean that, in ~50% polygynous countries, the places with the most polygyny have the least unmarried men! Another ~40% have no association, even after controlling for the local sex ratio. Communities that marry polygynously, usually marry more overall (3/5)

The 15th conference of Young Demographers is a great event! Yesterday I presented my poster. We compare marital fertility in Czechia before the first demographic transition and nowadays. You can see that the timing of first marriage and first childbirth is similar in these populations!
