More archival figure studies from the dark days before I got any comics work. Looking back, I could clearly draw, but I was coasting on a very limited set of skills and didn't want to sit down and study theory because I was impatient, arrogant and afraid I wouldn't then have any excuse for failure.

Some old figure studies from before I turned pro. I could work quite well from photo reference at that point, but my unreferenced stuff was generally pretty poor. Proportions and anatomy were all over the place. You're not seeing those ones. But these, I still like.

Cover I did for The Judge Dredd Megazine earlier this year. Not sure the surfboard came out looking as good as I'd like, but those shoulders on the jacket are definitely among my best drawings of jacket shoulders EVER. Also, I'd just watched Akira - which, of course, I didn't crib from at all.

A3 Commission of the Angel Gang I did a few years ago. It's an homage to a piece by Dave Gibbons and Mick McMahon, which I'll post in the comments. Always liked this one. There are a few dodgy bits of wrist anatomy but, other than that, I think it holds up pretty well.

Pencils and inks for a 3-panel sequence for Dredd: A Penitent Man (2020). I always quite liked this scene. There's a few proportion issues that betray how underdeveloped my figure drawing skills were, but I think the staging works and the shadow-work on Asher's face in the last panel holds up.

A few years ago, I did 'classic monster' table cards for a friend's wedding. Because of the sheer number of them and my other deadlines, I ended up having to do them quite quickly, but I think the resultant technique of pencils and red textures came out nicely. Here's some of the better examples:

A4 Hulk transformation I did as a commission a few years ago. It has its issues, but I still quite like it - particularly the intermediary degrees of Hulk-ness and Banner's face and hands.

This year's 2000AD art competition will mark 10 years since I won in 2013. It's how I got my first gig - and doing a decent job my first gig was how I got my second. Since then, I've been a full-time comic book artist. If you want to break into comics in the UK, this is a brilliant way to do it.

It's the final showdown between Judge Dredd and Kyle Asher in today's 2000AD (prog 2349). I've been drawing Asher's arc since before lockdown. Now there shall be a great hole in my life that can only be filled by leisure activities.

Tomorrow, the last part of Judge Dredd: A Fallen Man will come out in 2000AD in 2349, marking the end of a trilogy of stories that have formed the majority of my workload for the last three and a half years. Here's the very first page I drew for the initial run, 'A Penitent Man', back in 2020.

Daredevil commission I did a while back, when I was first starting to move away from using digital 3-D models as the starting point for all my drawing. This was one of the more successful examples of using the model sparingly. Most of the time, it ended up being better to draw things from scratch.

Here's a comparison of layouts, pencils and inks from my run on Dredd last year. In retrospect, I got the mohawk guy's face a lot better at the first pass, both in terms of expression and proportion, and ended up losing it quite a bit in subsequent stages.

Since I have a clean slate with a new social media platform, it seems like as good a time any to post some of my favourite bits and pieces of artwork and have them disappear without a trace like they did the first time. Anyway, here's a painting I did for the cover of @2000ad.bsky.social no. 2310.
