It's #2026, and I've been back in the office since yesterday. It's an exciting time to be working in #pharma, with Novo getting its weight loss pill approved by the FDA at the end of 2025. I don't really understand why they had to let so many people go, yet still got the pill approved before Lilly.

The last working day of the year is over! It's been a tough year with lots of change and few opportunities. Let's see what the new year brings, hopefully including more scientific work. 🎄🎅

It's getting cold here in #Graz and #commuting by bike is rather fresh. Sometime earlier this year I bought arm sleeves (because they were reduced in pricing) and I have to say I am impressed. Struggling with cold hands and arms, the arm problem is now sorted 😊

I finally had some time, so I installed #BazziteOS on my gaming laptop, and so far, so good! As well as being able to play games, I can also compile code, and the power management is much better under Linux. Windows kept the fan speed rather high, which my wife joked about constantly. Next step D3 👹

So over the last half a year, a colleague generated results for a paper that we are writing. The colleague is a rather fresh PhD student and he did some amazing simulations. But as I learned myself having nice results is only 1/3 of a done paper. Currently sorting what will end up in the appendix 🤔

Why would someone from #mdpi think it's a good idea to contact me when I have no prior experience of doing molecular dynamics or any kind of chemistry? I mean, yes, my workplace is involved in pharmaceuticals, but why contact the one person who does #CFD?

The likely reason why AI companies make such wild and unsubstantiated claims about AI capabilities rather than market them on the merits of what they can actually do is that there is probably no market that will pay enough for these services to recover the cost, let alone the investments.

I submitted slides for #EFDC2; let's see if I adapt them in the meantime. At plenty of conferences I have been to, people have edited their slides literally during their talk. I'm not saying it's good, but preparing the slides a month in advance seems excessive 🤨. #conference #submittedondeadline

Some #running stuff 🏃. Currently training for a new half marathon PB and until this week my watch only suggested base runs. This week threshold sessions are weaved in. Monday the first session was 17min @ tempo which turned out to be fine (for reference a little less 4.5km). Today 2x 20min 😵

Good news: Was asked to chair a session at the #EFDC2 🙂 Bad news: One project that needs to be wrapped up has gone somewhat nuclear 🤯 There are many things to do, but first let's finish the slides for my talk on August 26th in Dublin 😅

Back to literature review for #protein stuff. Found this in the abbreviations section after the acknowledgments in a paper: "MS masss pectrometry". I mean it is a typo and people make mistakes, but there were only seven abbreviations used and it is pretty hard not to autocorrect that one.

It's been a few years since I started dipping my feet into #CFD and fluid dynamics theory. For every paper that we published we had to show that in limits where theory is applicable our numerical results had to match theory. Sometimes it's easy sometimes we found bugs 🐜.

Last week I had the whole week off. It was a welcome change 😊. Yesterday started with a meeting a hard deadline for a 40 page report and a 30 page paper and some other tasks that are better done now. That said I happy and satisfied with the fact that we have AC installed 🧊🌬️ (temp outside > 30°C)
