Functional neurological disorders are common across public healthcare settings. The Exeter model is a multidisciplinary approach developed in the absence of additional funding to help meet the needs of patients who have FND from within mainstream services.

👩‍⚕️ 1 in 5 GP appointments are for folks with functional symptoms. 🫣 For some people these can be caused by how emotions are being dealt with. 🎙I had a discussion about this with Neurologist Dr Agne Straukiene and reflected on how this be managed for people who have both MS and functional symptoms.

I'm no FND expert but I have been involved in some programmes and it's a really exciting area of practice & when we get things right we can make such a difference

ISTDP also in my experience a very powerful intervention with selected patients with FND - strengths are experiential here-and-now mind-body-relationship technique, and building capacity for awareness of emotions and regulation of emotion-related anxiety while reducing self-defeating coping strats
