Even if this novel doesn't turn into anything, I'm proud of myself for getting this far. I've never finished one of my writing projects before, let alone edited something that I have finished. It's a new experience for me, and it's fun (when I'm not thinking about how much I suck)

Turns out editing the second draft is 1000x more difficult and time-consuming than writing the first draft. I'm finding out I made a billion mistakes, and correcting them all while keeping track of all my changes is pretty rough. I'm hoping the third pass through will be primarily just polishing.

The amount of bigotry against trans and nonbinary people is so disturbing and disheartening. An absurd fraction of the world severely lacks empathy.

I've reached the final 3-5 chapters of my book, and I'm having a lot more trouble than I expected. I think it's because I so desperately want the payoff to be good that I'm wracking my brain like Dr Strange trying to think of the best scenario out of the countless potential scenarios 😵‍💫

There are certain words that enter the cultural zeitgeist that end up getting used ad nauseum, like "demure" and "diabolical", and it's a painful reminder that most people don't read anymore.
