Yesterday I was notified that an NEH grant I'm on has been canceled by the Trump Administration. The point of the grant was to develop humanities courses that integrate data science. Guess that was too woke for somebody. This administration simply does not know what it is doing.

Out here at the protest in front of NIST in Boulder, Colorado. This town is home to a big number of this nation's climate scientists among other experts. We're feeling the impact and we're not taking it lying down.

Okay, pals. Time for action this month. We're going to do that by funding classrooms that are specifically seeking out Black history books. These classrooms are those that are in historically underfunded communities. These asks are from teachers whose students benefit directly.

After two field guides to bird sounds, I decided to change gears and write fiction. Turns out novels are harder than I thought! But several years and manuscripts later, with the help of my writing partner Katheryn,
@sarahnfisk.bsky.social
, and a great critique group, here we are!

Two Slate pieces make the same point: we need community, but we don't want to do the work. I feel that. (

Call to action, Chicago! The city is speeding thru the approval of the lakefront quantum computing facility without community input, continuing Chicago's legacy of prioritizing developer profits over neighborhood needs. This development is particularly concerning for bird conservationists. 1/x
