If you don't know of it already, PyDy is a fantastic Python "tool kit" for multibody dynamics. I use it extensively in a graduate course for generating symbolic equations of motion.

It seems that only the science community is noticing that NIH and NSF budgets are cut 40% and 55% in the budget bill, respectively. If you live in Maine, West Va, Pennsylvania, Alabama, or Louisiana, CALL YOUR SENATOR as they could make a difference. See below.

David Winter's observation of the "support moment" in human locomotion (sum of sagittal hip, knee, and ankle moments) is really well known but what's interesting/meaningful about it doesn't get discussed much. Winter DA (1980):

So: In 2017, Congress made this happen: NIH: Proposed 22% cut --> 9% increase NSF: Proposed 11% cut --> 4% increase NOAA: Proposed 16% cut --> 4% increase Obviously, 2025 is not 2017. A lot is diff now. But still: 💰 Congress, not WH, sets budgets. 📞 Public support & calls to Congress matter.

Reviewer is asking ~ why we put markers on the (form-fitting, spandex-type) clothing near the pelvis/genitalia, rather than directly on the skin. Is it common for participants to be buck-naked in your lab? Can't say I've ever seen/heard of that in my ~20 years here.

😃 A new article published in J Biomech by Smith et al argue that the CSA-dependence of specific force in mammalian skinned fibers is an artifact caused by imprecision in measuring fiber CSA, and not a physiological phenomenon impacting muscle force modeling. 👀
