GBA-era pixel art was exceptional in many cases. With high-fidelity display that wouldn't blur things like CRT the artists had more room for detail. The greater capability to display color art in (relatively) high resolution gave the art a place to shine. GBA launched 24 years ago. Still impresses.

Snake in the Dark update! My current demo build has been approved for release! I'm not hitting that green button just yet, though. Plenty to do with the generous playtest feedback I got. The demo WILL BE available for Sokoban Fest, starting April 21st. That means... two weeks. Oh my.

I wanted to make a joke about it, but I think this actually is a serious issue. Game like A Game About Digging a Hole or Powerwash Simulator, or even Cookie Clicker should come with a trigger warning. Games like this trigger my ADHD/OCD subroutines and I become a slave to the game until completion.

The Sims Anniversary takes the top spot on new and trending on @steampowered.com. Notice the Birthday Bundle boasts a "Very Positive" review score with 160k+ reviews. What's in it? Free2Play The Sims 4 with 160k reviews and all of the paid products with very few ~50% mixed reviews. This is shady.

Five years ago to the day ELDERBORN launched in full on Steam. The game was prematurely shoved into Early Access by a publisher with whom Hyperstrange split before the full release. When I was leaving the Head of Publishing position at Hyperstrange last year, ELDERBORN was at 300 000+ copies sold.

Oh, I assure you - there's a lot of inherently BAD ideas out there. It's better to pay them no mind and try to come up with a good idea, rather than funnel your creative power into salvaging something that was never viable in the first place. Time is finite for us, choices matter.

Some conclusions after the first playtest of my Snake in the Dark * Friends will tell you they like your game not really playing it - out of 30 playtesters 22 launched the game, but only 6 people got to level 4 (2 first levels are tutorial levels)

Well, of course Snake in the Dark has yellow paint... sort of. Improving the tutorial readability I wanted to stick to non-verbal communication. I thought ideogram tool tips would do the job best, and while the game is mostly monochrome I thought "hey, yellow would stand out nicely!" #yellowpaint

I didn't love the game itself, but The Ascent OST is some of the best electro/cyberpunk/ambient music I've heard. It's on par of Jasper Kydd's Borderlands pieces, and mixes seamlessly with Daft Punk's TRON OST.

Quilting was a craft that would support your family before the industrial era. Capitalism removes your ability to live off of what you enjoy, because "the man" needs you to work for them and spend your money in the company store. I believe we should defend indie game marketability. It's important.
