Interesting. "Some organizations, she says, have tried to tackle the Peter Principle problem by focusing less on a worker's past performance and more on their potential. "

Pour one out for the US Digital Service. This amazing team was founded during the Obama administration. They convinced some of the best and brightest minds in tech, to give up wealth and RSUs and free lattes, to dedicate their professional lives to service.♥️👍🏿 It just got renamed to DOGE.

Whiteness is a credential. But these folks have used propaganda and force to convince lots of people that this result is "meritocracy."

Good stuff in the Pat McFadden speech about public sector reform. Test and learn / accepting uncertainty in particular. But 'tour of duty' construct is deeply unhelpful for anyone looking to build a career in government, as I wrote pre-election about my experience:

It is exhausting having to research and figure out everything from black plastics to best ventilation practices to COVID vaccine schedules, I know this is a wild idea but have we thought about creating publicly funded government bodies that could manage and regulate this stuff on our behalf
