Still baffled that Minecraft hasn’t added mouse controls on Switch 2 yet.

Just took a look at some prices in a currency I understand. Looks like variable pricing is actually a thing! Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Rhythm Heaven Groove are all priced differently and there’s a $5-$10 price drop between each of those.

With Nintendo finally following through on their “variable pricing” approach, now more than ever we need a Nintendo news site that reports on Canadian pricing. It’s great to see that certain games are some amount cheaper, but I never know exactly what they’re going to cost until I get to the eshop.

Renaming the game “Starfox” makes a lot more sense than having to give a history lesson to explain why it has the number “64” in the title. WE all know what a N64 is, but if the point of this remake is to introduce new fans… they can learn the history later.

New Star Fox’s “realistic” animal characters feels like a choice motivated by MCU’s Rocket Raccoon, but not far from charted territory for the character in my opinion. It might be stale in a decade, but I like it for now.

Characters in a story can get into trouble from random bad luck, but they should never get OUT of trouble by luck alone. Unless you’re writing a muppet movie in which case Henry Winkler or someone can just show up and say “I’m Henry Winkler, and I’d be happy to solve your problem! For free even!”

Are we still doing Star Wars takes on here? I think the worst thing about modern Star Wars is the way they merchandise it like a choose your own adventure where both light and dark side of the force are valid options. Like do you choose “team heroic” or “team cool and edgy”?

Discussions about Donkey Kong Country 3 often allude to an intangible “oppressive atmosphere” or mood that the game seems to have, but which is hard to pinpoint. I think it might have something to do with the surprising number of music tracks that feature some form of strong or howling wind. #DKC

Players of Paper Mario are made to believe that Kooper has a bandage on his cheek as part of his character design. This features heavily in fan depictions of him. As it turns out, the bandage was never supposed to be permanent and this is a case of artwork being removed from its intended context.

Today I learned that Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite! was published by Nintendo. How many games based on licensed non-game properties has Nintendo published? I can’t imagine it is very many.

The people that market animated family movies decided long ago that the posters need to show the characters smiling directly at the viewer like its a family photo, so as an artist trying to convey character you only get to choose what *kind* of smile. So you’re bound to see a lot of similarities.

DKC2 is my favourite Donkey Kong Country of the original trilogy, but DKC3 is the one I most often get a sudden inexplicable urge to play.

When you beat Star Fox 64, the team sends General Pepper an invoice based on your score. Despite what the bill says, score isn't based only on units destroyed; hitting multiple enemies with one shot nets bonus points. Star Fox is committing fraud. The better you are, the more fraud they commit.

I am pro-Talking Flower, but replaying challenges in Mario Wonder DLC to get a good time convinced me to mute him.

Weird that they’ve added this music from the 3.0 update, but still haven’t added the music from the DLC. (yes I am the only person closely monitoring the progression of the Nintendo Music App.)

I think Waluigi may have surpassed Wario in terms of name recognition amongst non-gamers. I’ve now encountered two different people who thought Wario’s name is “Waluigi” and then said “and what’s the tall skinny one’s name?”

Surely this update has added a host of standee art for Rosalina? What’s uh… What’s the thought process, Nintendo?

I think a lot of people misunderstood the online ghosts in Mario wonder, thinking they’re just replays of other players, but you are actually interacting with players in real time most of the time. Nintendo was just really cagey in their descriptions of this feature.

So this cutting edge tech is not really doing anything new from a layperson's perspective. It's just doing the same old AI filter thing we're all familiar with and sick of, but at a speed that would make it applicable to games at runtime.

I just spoiled Mario & Luigi Brothership for myself (not sure if I was ever going to play it), but if SM64 ROM-Hackers aren't making good use of this music track from the end of the game then you're doing something wrong.

I love seeing how the Mario movies add detail and life to things I’m familiar with from the games, but I opened a “collectable movie card” on the Nintendo Today app and it was a koopa shell and I surprised myself by saying “gross” out loud. I would include a picture but I can’t screenshot the app.

AI artists will defend their claim to that title by saying there is a skill to wording prompts properly and selectively changing certain aspects of the output. But aren’t those the skills of someone who COMMISSIONS an artist? Clear communication and requesting good revisions? Aren’t you a client?

I love that the new Yoshi game lets you name creatures, but on behalf of wikis everywhere, big sigh of relief that they have “canonical” names too.

The stock image website that my work has a subscription to (123RF if you’d like to avoid it), is so uselessly inundated with AI images that not only is the image they use on their home page to represent “Stock Vectors” an AI image… I found the image they used, and it’s not even available as a vector

None of these Mario Kart shortcut videos show me what to do if I need to scratch my head 3 separate times during the shortcut.

Feels weird to set my Switch pfp to a character from a game I have no intention of buying anytime soon. It feels like I’m advertising and encouraging other people to buy, but I just like the character.
