At some point in the last couple months, without ever updating my app or my phone, the Youtube app has started letting me keep watching a video while I open and use other apps. Adobe Illustrator now asks you to buy AI credits if your mouse is off by a pixel when you try to crop an image and accidentally make the image slightly bigger on one side. You can prevent yourself from doing this by turning on snapping/smart guides, but smart guides also annoy me.

Was I sleeping or did they announce a Switch 2 version of Minecraft without saying a word about mouse controls?

So the Donkey Kong challenges (including the ones labeled “hard”) are just “beat this level normally”?

I’m not a Kingdom Hearts fan, but isn’t there supposed to be like… Disney stuff? Did they forget? Are they only visiting the live action remakes this time? Is Sora teaming up with Giselle from Enchanted’s New York?

Seemed like a good Nintendo Direct, just not for me specifically. Most excited for Rhythm Heaven which we already knew about. I’m glad the Ocaremake leaked or I would’ve been disappointed it’s not a new game. Weird they didn’t show us more since it’s coming out this year. Thumb Wars Resort is funny.

As long-time followers will know, I have played and beaten Donkey Kong Country 2 countless times, but somehow it was only this week that I bothered to figure out a mostly consistent strategy for Kaptain K. Rool’s final attack pattern in the Flying Kroc. Just clumsily winging it every time until now.

I hope they make a sequel to backrooms about the flooded swimming pool backrooms cause that’s my favourite liminal space flavour.

I was going to criticize this for non-canonically featuring the Woody’s Round-up Gang and Buzz Lightyear as part of the Pizza Planet branding, but at least in these mockups they do seem to treat them as living toys standing on top of the building, rather than intentional mascots so well played.

Am I allowed to say that I thought “Book of Life” was painful to watch now?

On a scale of Yoshi’s New Island to Yoshi’s Woolly World, how is the music in the new Yoshi game?

Finally saw the Mario Galaxy movie. Bowser Jr. is LeChuck. Mini Mushrooms don’t work like that. What if Peach had found… THAT book… Anyway, it was certainly several scenes one after the next.

I knew these games were made by Game Freak after listening to the music for 2 seconds.

Still baffled that Minecraft hasn’t added mouse controls on Switch 2 yet.

Just took a look at some prices in a currency I understand. Looks like variable pricing is actually a thing! Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Rhythm Heaven Groove are all priced differently and there’s a $5-$10 price drop between each of those.

With Nintendo finally following through on their “variable pricing” approach, now more than ever we need a Nintendo news site that reports on Canadian pricing. It’s great to see that certain games are some amount cheaper, but I never know exactly what they’re going to cost until I get to the eshop.

Renaming the game “Starfox” makes a lot more sense than having to give a history lesson to explain why it has the number “64” in the title. WE all know what a N64 is, but if the point of this remake is to introduce new fans… they can learn the history later.

“The next Star Fox game should lean into the puppet angle of the SNES box art for its character designs” =basic “The next Star Fox game should lean into the puppet angle by making the characters literal mo-cap puppets that you can puppeteer in multiplayer”= galaxy brain.

New Star Fox’s “realistic” animal characters feels like a choice motivated by MCU’s Rocket Raccoon, but not far from charted territory for the character in my opinion. It might be stale in a decade, but I like it for now.

Characters in a story can get into trouble from random bad luck, but they should never get OUT of trouble by luck alone. Unless you’re writing a muppet movie in which case Henry Winkler or someone can just show up and say “I’m Henry Winkler, and I’d be happy to solve your problem! For free even!”

Are we still doing Star Wars takes on here? I think the worst thing about modern Star Wars is the way they merchandise it like a choose your own adventure where both light and dark side of the force are valid options. Like do you choose “team heroic” or “team cool and edgy”?

Discussions about Donkey Kong Country 3 often allude to an intangible “oppressive atmosphere” or mood that the game seems to have, but which is hard to pinpoint. I think it might have something to do with the surprising number of music tracks that feature some form of strong or howling wind. #DKC

Players of Paper Mario are made to believe that Kooper has a bandage on his cheek as part of his character design. This features heavily in fan depictions of him. As it turns out, the bandage was never supposed to be permanent and this is a case of artwork being removed from its intended context.

Letterboxd regularly sends me emails letting me know about movies I’ve given a rating to, but haven’t yet made a review for (I never write reviews). The subject line in these emails is always “Rushes” I am deeply annoyed to hear this word from a company that isn’t paying me. Settle down.
