Who is old enough to be nostalgic for old Star Trek but still leaving mean youtube comments under trailers for New Star Trek? You are middle aged! buy a book about Napoleon and take it to the park!

it's weird to me that Archie Comics apparently still has a regular comic book sized monthly issues business going on behind their booming "digests sold by the checkout business" has anybody ever met anyone who has read a regular sized Archie?

Did you know Canada's seat of government is currently in the middle of a decade long renovation and expansion? they have a whole website about it how they've boxed up all the historical stonework and taking casts of all the plasterwork in case something gets broken.

My kids are all pretty precocious and have been fairly ahead of the curve on language development, so sometimes I honestly forget that the oldest is barely in Kindergarten until suddenly we're watching Barbie Diamond Castle and it's just a tiny bit too intense.

the real question, of course, is how did Rene Magritte get ahold of early 90s computer rendering software in 1932. but thats why he was one the greats.

Leveling up in the AI era by simply by not making myself reliant on least competent machines ever devised. It’s like John Henry versus the steam drill but the steam drill just sort of rattles around aimlessly and sometimes a flywheel comes off and maims the operator.

I would never make it in a fairytale. I wouldn’t be cruel to the mysterious old woman, but social anxiety would prevent me from really interacting with her in any meaningful way.

You kids like Sabrina Carpenter? well I know about another carpenter who had some strange things to say, and did some miraculous works, and had a black cat named Salem Saberhagen, and she- ah sorry, not Carpenter, let me start over.

It has to be because of that Bubsy 4d coming out next year that they put out old Bubsy on the Switch virtual console. presumeably the Bubsy people didn't pay Nintendo enough to not put it out.

In Star Trek V they send the mid refit, skeleton crewed Enterprise out hostage recovery because they "don't have experienced captains in the area" Hey, maybe you would have more captains if you weren't keeping the entire 2260s Enterprise bridge crew together. Chekov was an XO in Wrath of Khan.

My kids are in CanSkate this year, which means at least the four year old is probably two weeks away from being a better skater than me. I'm really starting to think I squandered my years of peak neuroplasticity.

Canadian tire needs to go like, fifty percent less hard on the Halloween decorations section. Last time my wife took our three year old daughter there they had to run straight to the back to avoid the section and she was still talking about it five hours later.

It’s not at all part of my tradition but I have to hand it to them, the all black suit with the clerical collar looks extremely sick. And all due respect to letting not the right hand know what the left is doing I think there’s a value in being out there visibly getting pepper sprayed protesting ICE

I think where it all when wrong is when we started letting people buy and sell “the idea of pigs later” we let them get away with that and now they’re going to crash the global economy by selling the same graphics card back and forth for more and more money.

Disneys Robin Hood establishes that King Richard went on the third crusade because he had been hypnotized by Sir Hiss. Which is a good call because it would be kind of hard to really celebrate his return if we knew he had recently been real gung ho to do a holy war.

An underrated thing about the Star Trek movies is that they managed to do one to in just about all the major genres of Star Trek episodes.

People who drank or used will talk about feeling like hypocrites warning their children off drugs or alcohol, and I fundamentally disagree, but in the other hand my kid starts building a stuffed animal fort in bed when he should be sleeping and it’s like “well who am I to complain?”

A thing I love about TV and movies is that they have people whose whole job is to think harder about clothing than you probably have in your entire life and decide what clothing the characters should wear to help tell the story. And that’s why I’m not really interested in an AI generated movie.

One fringe benefit of the ai world is that when you accidentally pick up a scammy/spammy call you can accuse the caller of being a computer program trying to trick you and hang up and it doesn't even matter if you are right.

A challenging part of parenting they don’t tell you about is sometimes you need to ask a kid about something they did in a way that conveys you aren’t mad, just mystified.

My wife is a hardline “Christmas music season begins October first” person. Which is insane in the context of Halloween but honestly pretty sensible in the context of Canadian Thanksgiving. We are done in by a thematically muddled holiday calendar.

Always thought it was weird and confusing that both Klingons and Romulan have ships called Birds of Prey. Extremely funny to learn it’s because Star Trek 3 was supposed to have Romulans but then they changed it to Klingons and just kept the class of the ship the same.

Amish Paradise may refer to Holmes County, Florida. Holmes County has the highest per capita anabaptiste population in America, this combined with Florida’s warm climate certainly make it something of an “Amish Paradise” -Weird Ai Yankovic

The Lesson of early Star Trek development is that we owe so much to the creative vision of Gene Roddenberry and in equal measure we owe so much to the various parties and circumstances which made him go away for a bit and stop futzing with things.
