Caught the World Premiere of ANOTHER SIMPLE FAVOR last night. Honestly, I enjoyed it even more than the first; a funny, twisty murder-mystery in beautiful Capri and with Blake Lively in the best, wildest outfits. Catch it May 1 on Amazon Prime

Nerd Haul! Picked up a bunch of comic books and a couple of books today - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (second book of Hitchhiker’s Guide series) and In Sylvan Shadows (second book of the Cleric Canticle series). Looking forward to dipping in to these books on my upcoming work flights!

The Beast, a sci-fi/romance/dread filled film from director Leos Carax (Holy Motors), stars Lea Seydoux in the year 2044 who goes through a dna purification process to strip herself of emotions. In doing so, she relives her past lives / encounters with a man (George McCay) in both 1910 and 2014.

My 2024 in Film

Cancer Update: After some bad news in December - I wasn't responding to chemo, so we stopped treatment in search of a second-line treatment - I was selected for a slot in a research study on targeting specific gene mutations! Very promising news to start the new year

We had such a joyous Christmas, filled with family, video games, delightful food, and a movie (Babygirl, really good)!

Catching up on some films from earlier this year. Wow, RED ROOMS floored me. Dark and unsettling, the icy and enigmatic performance by Juliette Gariepy is spell-binding. A tense drama, and not for the faint of heart due to its subject matter, but I’ll be thinking about it for some time. #FilmSky

As we wrap up 2024 - Don’t sleep on the I Saw The TV Glow soundtrack. Ethereal, moody, and transportive, it evokes nostalgic evening drives with friends tinged with palpable yearning. #filmsky

A Real Pain - Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, and starring Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. Funny, poignant, caustic, and raw, A Real Pain taps into the idea of generational trauma clashing with personal trauma in a way that never feels too heavy, but which always carries weight.

That thing where a coworker sends you a crochet viking beard and helm after finding out you lost your real beard to chemo. Epic.

Week 3 of chemo kinda kicked my butt. No appetite, plenty of nausea, exhaustion, and beard hair loss. But staying positive and staying strong 💪🏼

Saw X - first audience to see this one (Secret Screening at #FantasticFest). Bloody and brutal, it scratches the Saw itch. I appreciate this one giving Tobin Bell more levels to play; it definitely allowed him to be not just the villain, but also the main emotional throughput. 3.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky

When Evil Lurks - Brutal and bleak with sudden descents into depravity captured as little vignettes of horror happening to the characters as they break the rules / get picked off. The Creator - In the AI vs humans war of The Creator, a soldier with every reason to hate AI beings is tasked with destroying a new weapon - that takes the form of a curious child. Recycled themes but fresh world building and performances. 4 / 5 ⭐️#FilmSky #FantasticFest

River - a warm hug of a movie about finding happiness while trapped in a 2 minute time loop with your coworkers and the guests of your sleepy resort town. As sci-fi comedies go, this one plays it simple, but left me feeling uplifted. 4.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky #FantasticFest
