There is virtually no better commercial you can run for the European defense industry than these two sentences uttered by Trump. No matter with whom I’m talking about this on this side of the pond, the common understanding is that this is going to severely damage the US industry.

The core argument here is unanswerable. For liberal democratic countries, buying American weapons is a security risk. It must be avoided at all costs.

I hope people understand what we are seeing here. 1) Trump and Putin are preparing a common plan to dictate to Ukraine. 2) Ukraine will surprise them (at least Trump) by refusing. 3) The War will continue. 4) The role of Europe will be decisive.

People saying that they are shocked, or that Putin is hoodwinking Trump still don't get it. Putin isn't fooling Trump or Trump has not changed his position. He is pro-Putin, he wants Russia to do well and he could not care less about Ukraine (and he hates Zelensky).
