Some news: I’m delighted to be singing the role of Jezibaba in a concert staging of Dvořák’s Rusalka w Domingo Hindoyan & @liverpoolphil.bsky.social, with Sonya Yoncheva in the title role, PLUS this is also the 1st in a series of operas in concert for which I am Creative Producer for the RLPO.

What a week. Mahler 2 with the brilliant Gergely Madaras and Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Polina Pasztircsák & Namur Symphonic Choir. Special to perform this piece in this hall, where Mahler himself conducted it for the first time outside Austria in 1899.

Rest in peace, JJ, giant of literature. It has been (at times) hilarious fielding some of your correspondence and invitations to literary events over the years, but you always found wry amusement in the mix-ups. I would also like to reassure my family that I am alive and well in Belgium.

CONSULTANCY UPDATE: Far from living a quiet life, I have been busy of late. I am developing some major projects with 3 national organisations, one launching at the London Transport Museum, about which I will be able to share more at the beginning of February so watch this space.

New Year’s Resolutions for 2025: - Underconsumption Core. Or as my Nanna would have called it, Make Do & Mend. Not buying anything unless it’s strictly necessary is a good challenge for this year, and a whole lot better for the environment.

2024 has been professionally epic, with some significant landmarks, especially my first Judith with Klaus Mäkelä and the Oslo Filharmonien, the role that became my very last-minute on-the-day debut at English National Opera. 🧵

My grandfather Noel (who I called Pop) LOVED Christmas, and was even named after it, having been born in Advent. He was Santa at the Christmas Fete, and I was his little fairy helper in the Grotto. In my head Christmas will always belong to my Pop. Merry Christmas, Every One.

One of those magic school teachers, Daphne Wigmore was head of drama & trusted me with a big role in a big play (The Mayor in Gogol’s A Government Inspector), meaning I wasn’t daunted when acting on stage in opera for the first time. Here’s to all of the acting teachers, often unsung heroes.
