It's so nice working for (and with) a publisher that has a very clear stance against generative "AI". And it's even nicer that the devs we work with have a clear understanding that these generative tools have no place in creative works. Can't make cool shit if you rely on the slop machine.

I find so many artists I've never seen before when researching ref on every single painting I make. This is the way we make connections. Using genAI to make reference is creating unseen missed opportunities at unprecedented speed and removing one more human element of art making.

Like man, my career only exists in the way that it does now because a production designer was googling "realistic pokemon" and found me. If he could have just had a machine spit that out, I never would have gotten a job. This is a major issue hitting artist discoverability.

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

I'm saying this as someone who actually thought that generative models *might* be useful for ideation when they came up for the first time a few years back: fuck right off. The only thing it's good at is ripping the soul out of your artists work. Also "placeholder text"... use lorem ipsum ffs!

I'm enjoying the dorito pope's fart-sniffing extravaganza in the best way possible: by looking up a list of trailer announcements and picking the ones that interest me 😏. ...seriously, I'm so glad I mostly got rid of my general FOMO a while back. Much more relaxing!

Also, as the coiner of the term, I should point out again that simply using premade assistance is not asset flipping. That’s when you did *zero* work of your own. Still, I’d rather someone fully asset flip than use AI. Regurgitative AI is asset flipping’s perverse cousin.

Premade assets are another example of a niche that was already being filled before “AI” came along. If you need a basis to start developing from, or some cost cutting measures, we’ve had prefab options for years. And unlike AI, this is art you can use with permission rather than just stealing.

A truly great idea. 10,000 ethical assets freely available. There’s no excuse for resorting to so-called AI with this and the *many* other assets you can use without resorting to laundered plagiarism. Support real artists, not con artists.

Hammering away at this framework has been incredibly fun so far. I'm finally getting to write some actual clean code and learned a bunch of stuff I never really thought about as well! Implementing animation-based movement and motion warping was quite an interesting challenge, for example. 😅
