I’m SO PROUD of my PhD student
@sammorgn97.bsky.social
who successfully defended her thesis yesterday. Sam wrote a brilliant thesis examining how we can use emotion and space to navigate the legal politics of LGBTQ+ rights advocacy in the Caribbean. Now to celebrate! 🥂

At the end of the day, if the “concern” you have about your country or neighbourhood is that there are too many Black or Brown people living there, then that is racism. Yearning to make the place you live more white is, in fact, white supremacy. Just saying.

Fascism is thriving. Every politician, journalist, and influencer that talks about migrants as threats, Black folks as criminals, trans people as social contagions, etc is directly facilitating the social resentments that shape fascism. We need them to stop their destructive disinformation politics.

It's physically unsafe for people like me to go into the centre of our home city this Saturday on account of the colour of our skin. Most politicians are either failing to stand up to this or actively contributing to the situation. We don't owe any of those politicians our votes. Not one of them.

One of the things I talk about in my work is how we erroneously believe that the passage of time is what brings about change. In actual fact, it is our action to change things that brings about the passage of time. Otherwise, we are trapped in repeating and expanding fascisitic/colonising patterns.

The largest number of perpetrators of sexual violence in the UK are white men. Any attempt to place blame squarely on racialised groups is not only racist, but it also obscures the systemic problem of men’s violence against women (within homes, which is the most dangerous place for women).

Organisers say 100,000 people attended London Trans+ Pride yesterday 🏳️⚧️ The theme this year was existence and resistance. Team QueerAF were there and witnessed a strong, empowered community that was turning its rage, into a powerful fight back 👇

“Under the Trump administration, families are being pushed to the brink, forced to navigate impossible barriers to care, while the federal government intensifies its assault on transgender rights.” Governments in the US and elsewhere are legislating erasure of trans youth. It’s shameful and cruel.

An inspiring evening at Professor Kehinde Andrews’ book launch and documentary screening. The film was both enlightening and powerful, a vital portrayal of the real Malcolm X that resonates deeply with our current moment. I can’t wait to get stuck into the book!
