As I continue to explore ways that past researchers have tried to determine if their assessment practices impact student learning, I came across "Effects of of Text Anxiety and Evaluative Threat on Student's Achievement and Motivation" by Dawson Hancock (2000).

In thinking through what sort of evidence might help alleviate my concerns that #ungrading models aren't just refurbished versions of existing assessment practices--that, instead, they actually improve learning in the classroom--I came across this essay by Horace Crogman, et al.

This is good advice, and also one of the significant reasons why contingent faculty really struggle with getting research done. When I was teaching five courses at three different schools, I didn't have "non-teaching" days. Research and writing was often shunted entirely during a semester.

When I lived in Wales while working on my PhD, I briefly lived with a fellow American (though an undergraduate), who would drink Ribena from the bottle without mixing it. Impressively, he didn't seem too bothered by drinking about a gallon and a half of juice in a little over a quart of liquid.

High school teachers (or other people who teach writing): What have you done to these students? Every semester I get *at least* one panicked email where a students asks how much I am going to take off if they go over or under the limit by some miniscule amount (today it was 25 words out of 500).
