#OnThisDay in ’64 Graham Hill (BRM; pic) won #USGP at Watkins Glen - the 2nd of his 3 consecutive #F1 GP wins there. 2nd was John Surtees (NART Ferrari) & 3rd was Jo Siffert (Rob Walker Brabham).

Remembering Eitel Cantoni, born #OnThisDay in 1906. A rich Uruguayan who’d raced in South America pre-WW2, he raced in Europe post-WW2 in privateer #F2 Maseratis painted brown. The #F1 championship used F2 cars in ’52 & ’53, so Cantoni entered 3 GPs in ’52, best 11th (Monza).

Remembering Tony Shelly, who died aged 61 #OnThisDay in 1998. A successful racer in Australia, & his native New Zealand. Shelly came to Europe in 1962, entering 3 Grand Prix, only qualifying for the British race. He retired from racing in 1964 to concentrate on the family business. #F1

Remembering 1967 F1 World Champion Denny Hulme, who died from a heart attack during the Bathurst 1000 #OnThisDay in 1992, aged 56. Hulme won 8 Grand Prix during his F1 career (1965-1974). He was 1966 Le Mans runner-up, 1967 Indianapolis 500 rookie of the year, & a two-time Can-Am champion. #F1

Remembering Roberto Bussinello, born #OnThisDay in 1927. Bussinello started two Italian Grand Prix. He drove a De Tomaso F1 at the 1961 race, finishing 13th. In 1965, he drove a Scuderia Centro Sud-entered BRM P57, .Bussinello also raced touring, & sports cars. #F1

Remembering Eitel Cantoni, born #OnThisDay in 1906. A weathy Uruguayan businessman, Cantoni founded the Escuderia Bandeirantes team. He drove a Maserati A6GCM in three Grand Prix during 1952, finishing once, 11th at the Italian Grand Prix.

Born on this day in 1941, Andrea de Adamich was studying law when he took up motor racing. He was soon driving in F1 for Ferrari, McLaren & Brabham before a crash abruptly ended his career. This tale of an unlikely #F1 driver is today's Great Read go.motorsportmagazine.com/4p...

1976 – Hunt, very much in the hunt of the title #OnThisDay 3 October, McLaren driver James Hunt cut Niki Lauda‘s lead in the Drivers’ Championship to eight points with two races remaining, following his victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. #formula1 #F1

1971 – Cevert wins the final round of the Championship #OnThisDay 3 October, Tyrrell driver Francois Cevert won the last race of the season, the 1971 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, capping a season in which he had really made his mark… #F1 #formula1

1965 – Hill secures a hat-trick in the US #OnThisDay 3 Days October, Graham Hill completed a hat-trick of successive wins at the US Grand Prix in 1965 after an early battle with Jim Clark in a Lotus-Climax. #F1 #formula1

#OnThisDay in 1971. At Watkins Glen, the World Championship season drew to a close with François Cevert (Tyrrell-Ford-002) winning the US Grand Prix. While this was the fourth of the Frenchman's eventual 13 World Championship podium finishes, it would be his only victory. #F1

1998 – Olivier Gendebien passes #OnThisDay 2 October Best known for his success in both F1 and endurance racing. His F1 career spanned from 1956 to 1961, during which he raced in 14 World Championship GP, with two podium finishes, including a 2nd place at the 1960 French Grand Prix. #f1 #formula1

1988 - Alain Prost secured a crucial victory #OnThisDay 2 October at the Spanish Grand Prix, his second win in eight days, to gain a five-point lead over McLaren teammate and rival Ayrton Senna, who managed fourth after problems with his fuel consumption computer. #F1 #formula1

1977 – Hunt wins the race but Lauda wins the Drivers' Championship #OnThisDay 2 October, fourth place at the 1977 US Grand Prix was enough to secure Ferrari driver Niki Lauda his second World Championship in three years. #f1 #formula1

1966 – Brabham wins the Constructors' Championship with Clark lapping the entire grid #OnThisDay 2 October, Jim Clark won the 1966 US Grand Prix in a Lotus with an engine borrowed from BRM rival Graham Hill after his had blown up during practice. #f1 #formula1

#OnThisDay in ’77 pole man James Hunt (McLaren M26) won the #USGP at Watkins Glen from Mario Andretti (Lotus 78), but the early star of a wet race was Hans-Joachim Stuck (pic), who led in spectacular fashion in this Brabham BT45B until he spun off on lap 15.
