I've got the week off and, while i have been enjoying Bazzite, I really want to get SteamVR running under Linux-even if it means switching to another flavor. (yes, I'm using an AMD GPU. Also, Bigscreen Beyond for the HMD) Any recommendations? Bonus if there's a decent writeup on how to do it.

Slowly working through the 2024 DMG and I hit the section on Crafting Magic Items. Holy shit, this is good.

Doggedly ignoried the heat and played some Beatsaber and Pistol Whip tonight. AC on full blast did not save me. I went about 1/3 my usually session for active VR. Still glad I did it. If I waited for more reasonable weather, I wouldn't play for months!

Even if you never I tend to run it as a game, the Dresden Files RPG is a fantastic in-world artifact written by Billy Borden as a way to teach people about the supernatural without them knowing. It's full of cross talk between Billy, Harry & Bob and a great snapshot of the books at that time

Ready or Not 2 was a better sequel than I expected! Like, very deftly handled in a way that didn't let it be a lesser, boring repeat of the first. And the cast was great.

This week, for the second time in my life, I had to quit a job. The first time, it was primarily over the owners being anti-vax during COVID and running their business accordingly, but there was a pay component as well. It was my promary job, so this was A Problem, but I was right to do it.

PAX is the first event that actually made me feel at home...more myself that I am anywhere else. The community that has come together to make PAX more inclusive and accessible is not only a wondrous thing of its own, but one of the defining features of the con's culture. It deserves support!

I've been gearing up to work on a D&D project and my mind took a left turn today and devoted that energy to a totally unrealted RPG thing. Good work, but damnit brain!

I've been using Ian McKellan's brilliant line read of "We're the future, Charles. Not them." in conversation lately and it feels very good because it's true. And you know exactly what I mean. We're the future, Charles. Not them.

Supergirl is better than the Superman movie. My main criticism of Superman was some of the more effects heavy action seems that either ran too long or looked too unreal. This movie was better on both counts, but cuts in the fights were too fast. I'm truly nit-picking here. It's a fun adventure!

Do I know anyone with experience with floor chairs or (aspirationly) floor desks? I have space constraints in my office at home. Was looking for info on a floor chair I could lounge in while gaming and put away afterward, but then I stumbled across the furniture-free influencers.

Plans to watch Supergirl tonight! I hear good things. I mostly liked Superman, so I'm looking forward to it.

One last RPG thought of the day. Earlier I chimed in on a discussion of horror in RPGs In one of the offshoots of that, Vampire: The Masquerade entered the chat. But I'm not about to talk about horror, per se, but how some systems enable assholes. A real mechanics-as-physics issue.

This is why we re-started buying physical media at home... at least for movies & shows we really like. But there is sooo much media out there.. more than ever before and accelerating. I'll never run out of new, good stuff to watch IF I can find and access it.

I just wanted to do a quick aside... There's a hard-ish floor for tone set by any game's mechnanics, but you still have remarkable latitude to set tone by how describe the scene and the action. Games can be epic from level one.

Drama aside, I finally ordered a 2024 MM & DMG. I truly wasn't going to bother but I never transitioned to online tolls and my 2014 DMG is lost? My position on D&D has been that I can make or fake anything that isn't in the three core books. Players can bring in whatever they want.

Listened to yet another video talking about Hasbro trying to monetize D&D by sidelining DMs with AI so players pay to engage with D&D Beyond more. Good luck with that. Finally, paid DMing might be made viable.

Today, I'm considering the benefits of having run a handful of D&D adventures repeatedly over the years. If you squint, it may be like doing a play with several showings a week. You can learn to emphasis different aspects/details and bring out new elements.
