I grew up largely on library books and second hand Enid Blyton. Without the library I doubt I'd have the love I have for books and as a result of that borrowing I've spent a LOT of my adult money on books. Definitely a solid investment, if the financial side is what concerns you.

Thing is I do understand that fixing the economy / country is going to take a long time, but people need a big shiny thing. A real, noticeable benefit in their lives RIGHT NOW because everything sucks and also, that's human nature. Expensive? Gods yes. But it's absolutely vital.

Monday morning and clearing the lingering fog of sleep. It didn't come easily, had to take a Phenergan to make sure I'd stay asleep when I finally crashed, but a racing mind is hard to park. I did manage to write a few hundred words yesterday. I'm not convinced they're good, but they're real.

Life has been consistently kicking my ass for a long time now and this year's gotten worse and worse. I'm now on the cusp of selling all my gym gear and eating my feelings until I'm basically spherical OR getting absolutely shredded. And I genuinely don't know which way I'm going to fall.

It's really hard to write funny when you're feeling lower than a snake's nipples. Maybe I write the horrible bits and come back to the humour later? Hmm.

The world is becoming harsher for transgender people right now. Darkness stretches before and behind them, and the pain is growing. Their wish remains simple — to love who they love and live true to themselves🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 This is why we must join hands and change the world with compassion.

My writing plans were largely hobbled by life events so as I'm way off-kilter right now I've decided to just hammer out some good old fashioned whateverthefuck. Sometimes that's like a primal scream for the brain and sometimes it turns pain into art. Who knows? Fun.

Hard day. Didn't sleep well, but when I did I dreamed of happy times, and it made waking up so much harder. Ever dream you had a friend, or a kid, then you wake up and for a while it's like they died until your brain adjusts? Like that. Been crying silently at my desk for an hour. Nobody noticed.

Mine is that the setting has managed to make space seem very, very small.

I love Star Wars. It's full of very cool stuff. Coolest of all is that every Tie Fighter sounds like the pilot has never flown one before and is absolutely shitting themselves.

If you love someone, show them. Give them a hug, a kiss, a pat on the back, a kind word, pick up a treat without being asked, do something to make their day better, or whatever it is that shows them you care. You never know how long it'll be until you see them again. You never know if you won't.

Sometimes you're reading a book and it's so intense, and you're so into it, that it's weird that the world around you is quiet and nobody else knows what you're experiencing. Fucking hell this hits the ground sprinting.

Finished it today and it's great - loved the Jitterbug and her crew.

Having a weekend of actual rest so took the time to finish Jitterbug, by Gareth L Powell. As expected, I loved it. I love a self-contained space opera that lets you get to know its cast without losing a sense of the inherent biggliness of the setting. Great book, and you should read it.
