Air temps above mountain glaciers warm only ~0.83 °C per 1 °C of regional warming, evidence of local decoupling. But as glaciers retreat, this cooling buffer fades. By mid-century, glaciers will warm faster, melt quicker, as the lose their self-cooling microclimate.
