This might be one of the clearest graphs I've seen for the reasons behind why rich people should donate their surplus income to poor people. I donate 10% of my income each month to
@give-directly.bsky.social
and
@givingwhatwecan.bsky.social
🙂 I'm able to live normally on the remaining funds.

I signed the 10% Giving Pledge this year, and this week, I decided to donate 19% of my annual income to global health charities. It's not going to be anywhere near "enough", but I'm happy to do it --

After more than a decade of procrastinating, this week I finally filled out the paperwork (ok, webform) to pledge to give at least 10% of my income to effective charities for the rest of my career. 🧵

I've finally taken the
@givingwhatwecan.bsky.social
10% pledge, backdated to when I first started giving in 2019! I'm a huge believer in the power of effective giving to improve the world, and I think the pledge is a great tool for both committing and spreading the word!

Happy 15th Birthday to
@givingwhatwecan.bsky.social
! I took a pledge back in 2011 at University and it's one of the things I'm proudest of. Since then I've moved jobs, cities and even changed my name. I've kept effective giving a part of my life and now I'm even on GWWC's UK board!

Happy 15th birthday to Giving What We Can! I signed the 10% Pledge at EAGxBerlin in September after building enough of a safety net. I enjoy donating manually each month, it’s rewarding to see my job making a positive impact, alongside my direct-impact efforts, and it motivates me to do more :)

As Giving What We Can celebrates 15 incredible years, I'm reflecting on my own path to the 🔸10% Pledge. It started with a lunch conversation with a friend years ago about the drowning child thought experiment. The idea stuck with me, but like many big decisions, it took time to ripen. 🧵👇

Happy Birthday to Giving What We Can, which turns 15 today! 🥳 When Toby and I started GWWC 15 years ago, we had just 23 members, each of us pledging at least 10% of our income to effective charities until we retire. Now, over 9,000 people have taken this pledge.

In the end, it is just a logical conclusion every time I think about it again. I donate 10% of my income to effective charities. Realizing that I earn more than 98% of people on this planet was maybe the biggest reason for this decision.
