Talk today by Oxford PCDgroup alumnus Hamish Innes " Hycean worlds can only form under extremely cold and water-rich conditions " at 11:48 in Room Jupiter. Many other great talks in this session, which starts at 9:30 AM and continues after coffee, at 11AM (all in Jupiter).

Today at #EPSCDPS2025 there is a talk by Oxford PCDgroup alumnus Maxence Lefevre on sulfur allotropes in the Venus atmosphere. 11AM in Room Sun. This is one of many talks and posters on Venus and even Titan Maxence is involved in. Maxence was a postdoc on my ERC EXOCONDENSE project.

Very excited to share that my new paper has been accepted for publication in MNRAS! We are applying Doppler Imaging to model the activity signals from the HARPS-N Sun-as-a-star spectra! We show that injected planets can be retrieved with great accuracy! ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2025MNRA... 🔭🪐🧪

Today we had a great seminar given by Dr Jake Turner (@astrojaket.bsky.social) about how to use radio astronomy to study magnetic fields around exoplanets! Lots of interesting science, including potential observatories on the moon!

Despite some technical hitches, we had a very entertaining and informative Oxoplanets journal club by @exoscar.bsky.social and @astroklein.bsky.social, all about the mysteries surrounding AU Mic and its planets

In our now-published paper we model the early history of three exoplanets to specifically study the role of tidal heating on their capacity to solidify. A physically robust feedback mechanism can keep them molten, even with relatively thin atmospheres, which may extend to lots of rocky exoplanets.

Catching up on some interesting #ExoclimesVII posters. Here's one by Marylou Fournier-Tondreau (DPhil student in my Oxford Planetary Climate Dynamics Group) on new models of seafloor weathering. This is being calibrated against Earth data, because that's where the data are for now ...

And an #ExoclimesVII poster by Shami Tsai (postdoc alumnus of my Oxford PCDgroup) on sulphur chemistry in exoplanet atmospheres, including DMS. Significant results include a cluster of other compounds that should appear alongside DMS, abiotic photochemical DMS production.

Today at #Exoclimes VII is all about clouds. We kick off with a review talk on clouds in 3D by Elspeth Lee, an alumna of my Planetary Climate Dynamics group, now at Bern University. Very nice pedagogical intro to the fundamental physics, also the latest results.

Final #ExoclimesVII talk of the day is given by former Oxoplanets member Prof. Vivien Parmentier, about hot Jupiters as a population. Much of the work was done by his former DPhil student, Dr Alex Roth.

Congratulations to former Oxoplanets member Dr Lennart van Sluijs on his #ExoclimesVII talk on the ability to extract information from high-resolution models generated in 3D using a 1D retrieval framework. Planets are 3D, so we need to understand where the pitfalls lie in our 1D techniques.

The end of the second day at ExoSLAM is a panel about navigating life as an early career scientist. It featured @astrochloe.bsky.social!

In our new paper we model the complete evolution of L 98-59 d from 'birth' up to the present day. We show that it cannot be a gas dwarf or a water world; it's a 'hybrid' planet with an H2-rich atmosphere containing H2S and SO2 (photochemistry!), and a deep magma ocean. @timlichtenberg.bsky.social

Congrats to Dr Baptiste Klein on his talk at #EPRV6! He explains how you can use Doppler Imaging as a way to model stellar activity. This method helps us to find exoplanets around sunlike stars!
