I went to the May Day Faerie Festival today with friends. I was a bit chilly but beautiful day. The highlight for me was holding a crow & falcon. Plus, I purchased a new mug that quotes my favorite movie & describes me well before coffee.

Got some nice pics of the dogs today. Getting them to sit still for pictures is an unexpected benefit of training.

Andre was way overdue for a grooming. He looks so handsome now! We went to Sarah Jean's Ruff & Fluff grooming salon & she did a fabulous job!

I may have gotten the knack for cooking tofu.... squash the hell out of it & use a bold marinade. My grilled tofu tasted decent. That is a huge improvement, trust me.

I lasted about a week in a chronic kidney disease group on FB. I wanted recipes, not judgments. But worse, the lack of critical thinking. People looking for magic cures & diet fads & folks saying don't eat X because it has chemicals. Everything consumed is made up of chemicals.🙄

With unusually warm weather, i eagerly fired up the grill. I grilled marinated jicama root, which is a surprisingly tasty kidney friendly food. I topped it with seasoned black beans & paired with a side salad. Did my mood a world of good. Or maybe that was the giget beer...

I finished my first romance novel - An Offer Fae Can't Refuse by Lou Wilham. For a fantasy novel, it's pretty good - fae families portrayed as mob families. There isn't much action, mostly unrequited love, but it is a good story.

There is a new local romance bookstore that had a pet adoption event today. It's not my genre, but I got to pet dogs & the proceeds went to the pet rescue. I bought 2 romance fantasy books. I like to think I'm open-minded enough to try something out out of my comfort zone.

Recovering well from biopsy. There has not been much pain, but I can't sleep my side yet & and can't lift more than 5 lbs., which oddly I seem to do frequently in my daily life.

Had a kidney biopsy today. They brought me coffee afterwards.

Watching Prodigal Son, a police procedure show. Witness is having awake craniotomy. Cops walk into the operating room without masks to question her! AAARRGGHH! NO! No,no,no,no!! That's really bad, really lazy lazy. I can overlook a lot of the problems with this show but not this.

Sigh. Even with video medical appointments (telemed), patients have a long wait.

Visited the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge today where tons of sand cranes & a few whooping cranes pause when they migrate.

I must really love my dogs. I am making them dehydrated chicken feet. Handling raw chicken feet is the most vile, disturbing food stuff I have handled. Ever.

I'm not celebrating Christmas, but Andre is sorting a festive bandana from the groomer. Halley wanted to wear a bandana, too, but with a flower.

Sometimes the demans of my job & health are too much. I re-homed Jack because I am unable to exercise him or give him enough attention. He is happy in his new home, but I am depressed & angry that I had to make that decision. I still have Halley & Andre at least.

I think it's funny that my hairiest dog, who gets hot easily, absolutely hates cold weather. Every time I let him outside, he runs back in. And a picture demonstrated the size difference between Andre & Halley.

I dislike being in the eastern US time zone with daylight saving. At 6: 30AM, it is pitch black, & sunset is a 4:45PM. To quote my favorite alien, Harry Vanderspeigle, this is some bullshit.

Hot buttered rum tonight. So very good. I melt the butter, spices, & brown sugar together rather than muddle in the cup. In my opinion, it tastes better.

I am officially not participating in Christmas this year. Too many unexpected expenses, car repairs, house repairs, work stress & health concerns. I can't deal with holiday expenses, societal expectations & stress on top of all that.

When an object speaks to you, you must acquire it. Plus, it's a Baltimore thing about rats.

A good Thanksgiving. I had lunch with a friend. I fried turkey & made sweet potato wedges & my friend made green bean casserole & stuffing. Now I'm enjoying hot buttered rum & roasted chestnuts.

Cooked apples in my Big Easy oilless fryer. Honestly, the prep work was the worst part. I then topped them with cinnamon whisky syllabub. The lemon overwhelmed the cinnamon & whisky flavors & I really should wait until the apples cool top top eith syllabub. Still a tasty success for a first try.

I watched Good Boy tonight. Apparently when the supernatural messes with people, I can enjoy the scare, but when the target is a dog, the anxiety & fear for the dog is a bit too real. Then when it ends... what was the point of going through all that?

The highlight of my week should not be that the restaurant gave me an extra package of fried wonton wrappers for my soup.

A friend accidentally grew pumpkins from her bird feeder. I'm pretty sure this is a buckskin pumpkin, which has a mild flavor. The spices really stood out in the soup I made from the pumpkin.

Stick, who survived the infernal heat of a car in the summer & was thriving, could not survive the chaos known as Jack, who plucked Stick from the safety of his dirt & dashed him to the floor to be torn apart by the pack. RIP, Stick.

I have to be onsite at a hospital a little over an hour away, which means getting up at 3:00am. So of course I woke up at midnight & couldn't get back to sleep. Gonna be a loooooong day.

Attempting a new lentil & buckwheat groats soup recipe & am not using my slow cooker. Plus I am baking cornbread to go with it. Hope it turns out tasty!
