[[My 1st BSKY post]] The mouth of Flesh Lip & Mandarin's face symbolize the mouth of Mary verbally abusing James. They were inspired by the mouth of the figure in the center painting of “Second Version of Triptych 1944” by Francis Bacon. As a side note, in SH2R, Mandarin appears only in Otherworld.

1/4) The design of the upper body of Lying Figure came from a body bag as a sign of dead body. "Lying Figure" means lying Mary on a sick bed and a dead body (Mary's dead body) at the same time. The animations mean patients in pain (James himself may be one of the patients).

SH2 - The gun in the shopping cart that James finds in Room 301 of Wood Side (Room 217 in the remake) is, according to developer insight, "a satire of guns in American society." The remake's cart also features the logo of a store visited in SH1.

SH2/SH2R - Angela leaves behind a torn photo of her family in both games. She leaves it in the mirror room of Blue Creek in the original, but in the remake it is in a closet hideout during the Abstract Daddy sequence in the labyrinth.
