It was a whirlwind 3 days of book events. 9/11 @rachelharrison.bsky.social event, 9/12 Grand opening of Once Upon a Bookstore (Fall River, MA) and 9/13 Spooktastic Book Fair. Nearly 2' of autographed books! (My wallet will punish me later)

Got to hear the delightful and talented @rachelharrison.bsky.social speak last night at An Unlikely Story. I'm so excited to dive into PLAY NICE that my eyes are glowing demon fire 🤣🔥🤦‍♀️

It's been a long, hard week... But in two days I get to reward myself with a trip to the Spooktastic Book Fair. Can't wait!

This is why I love working at a library for the sillyness and nonsense. (As Homer once said, "Don't you hate pants?")

Watched some really great movies in the last week or so.

August was for weird horror (horweird? weirdror?). Chlorine and Blob top the weird list. Another horror classic in Psycho (Hitchcockian spoilers make this a less impactful reading experience). An anthology (also full of weirdness...dragon demons and yam witches!) and a brief graphic novel.

July reads... *spoilers* Jaws was surprisingly different from the movie.

June reading month... Was leaning into a summer camp/teen slasher theme.

Went on a graphic novel binge this weekend. Read BLANKETS bc I wanted to see why it was being banned, read EERIE TALES for my own pleasure... Then I was forced to read SCOTT PILGRIM (my youngest child's most recent obsession. I enjoyed them all to varying degrees.

I miss my old workplace.

Yesterday, I finally dove into this book. It's a whopper... But so compelling I might just finish this week.

For someone who wanted to read more nonfiction this year, I'm not off to a great start. 🤣

I think I missed something...or it's a case of "wrong-book, wrong-time." I think it's me... I'm not telling anyone not to read it. The writing is good, the descriptions and period details are excellent, the gore drips off the pages... But it just wasn't for me. I couldn't find the heart.

Plotted well and written competently, NEVER SAW ME COMING is good for those who love an extended cat-and-mouse mystery with plenty of red herrings (a whole aquarium full). But I found it, frankly, EXHAUSTING! I'm not built for constant scheming and lying. 🤣
