This was a fun paper to write! Finnish citizens were quite concerned about EU enlargement 20 years ago, but 🇫🇮 foreign policy leadership did not see an alternative for it. Media was focused on risks (eg. disunity), but political parties supported the ”big bang” almost unanimously

Talked to BBC about Trump-Putin call. The Weimar+ statement is a symbol of European weakness not strength. Not a serious attempt to take agency. Europe was aware that these talks were being prepared, but it remained passive, waiting for the outcome. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
