The attack on Lelo coincides with an expansion of the exploitative H2A program. Similarly, the DOC-ICE pipeline disproportionately impacts immigrants & refugees like Tek who are often survivors of the school to prison pipeline.

Juarez was violently detained in March. He is an internationally recognized farmworker, immigrant rights organizer, as well as one of the founders of the farmworker union FUJ. We believe that he was targeted because of his role as a vocal advocate for the labor rights of indigenous farmworkers.

Farmworker activist Alfredo Juarez Zeferino, known in his community as “Lelo,” was taken into custody by ICE Tuesday and is being held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma.

Tuesday morning, Alfredo "Lelo" Juarez Zeferino, a prominent activist for immigrant rights, was detained by ICE in Sedro-Woolley. The case has sparked outcry from fellow advocates and state officials.

More than 100 protesters gathered outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Ferndale to protest the detention of a prominent young activist. Alfredo "Lelo" Juarez Zeferino was detained Tuesday morning.
