I've spent the week begging my mom (an immigrant from the Caribbean) to carry her US passport at all times in case of a raid. "is it cause they'll hear my accent?" She asked me. I'm going to cry.

Children of people who were born during dictatorships... how are we feeling right now? Cause I don't feel good.

TikTok was truly a social network. I logged on in 2020 after a COVID layoff & a medical emergency. I'd have to lay in bed for hours seeing creatives discussing climate change and environmental justice. I don't know that I would have become a climate writer without the inspiration there.

Now that Bad Bunny's music is trending worldwide (again)... can people stop making fun of Caribbean Spanish accents? I've had to deal with rude comments growing up in NYC because my family is from PR/DR so I sound like them. It may seem "harmful" at face value but it's pretty hurtful!

Update: I would rather eat a jean jacket than post and interact on reels.
