I read a romance book with a proximal set of tropes to the ones I’m playing with… And I gotta say, I find hidden identity tropes more fun when you don’t try to surprise the reader with them. The anticipation is where the tension is. Hitchcock’s bomb under the table is the lesson.

King has always been kind of a complicated writer when it comes to homophobia. It's pretty clear he has a distaste for the violence of it, but neither his narrative voice or his protagonists ever really show much sympathy or self awareness of the subject either.
