Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

Operation raise the colours: 🧵 1/12 2 mini-islands on my road now painted to be Saint George's flags. I don't think quoting legislation about what the council does or doesn't allow in terms of flag poles etc is an adequate or even helpful response to what is going on in the UK at the moment.

Stretford Pride was gorgeous! So wholesome. The sun even came out.

In recent weeks, we've seen refugee hotels attacked across the UK, and mobs spreading the same racist violence we saw on our streets last year. It's time for our politicians and media to stop pushing hateful, divisive rhetoric, or this violence will only keep spreading.

Some important lessons for NGO comms here as well..

The further we get from compromise politics in favour of the unflinching demand for absolutes, the more progressive movements splinter. We're so busy tearing others down, rather than fighting the dramatic rise of the far right. It breaks my heart to see energy wasted on the wrong fights.

I thought Bluesky would be less of a cesspit than X. It doesn't appear that the standard of discourse is particularly high at all. Screaming profanities online won't create social change. We need mobilisation, online and IRL, appreciation we need multiple tactics, a shared mission uniting us.
