Scenes from the bookstore: A woman couldn't find a book. She gave me a high five & called me a rockstar when I found it. I was cashing out a woman when she said, "You're so pretty! Like a mermaid! Like Ariel" She walked back through the store later & called out "Have a wonderful night, Ariel!"

treasurers ---> treasures The first refers to the people who count the monetary worth of treasure (valuables), the second refers to the treasure found. A typo the eye can easily skip over, but I think you'd be disappointed if you went hunting for gems and found a group of accountants instead!

Every time I even *think* about not checking the spelling of what feels like the thousandth name during a proof, inevitably the next name is spelled incorrectly. So, evergreen reminder for copyeditors and proofreaders: Always, always, always check names!

Been reading a lot of submissions lately, and I've noticed this happening more than usual: When we (at Harlequin, no idea about everyone else) are asking writers for a synopsis, that is not the same thing as your pitch. I actually want to see the entire storyline, up to and including the ending.
