Reading Theory is cool but have you read the history of the era in which that theory was written in so you get the references used to justify the theory? Have you read the criticisms of that theory from the era it was written? Reading theory is cool. Reading theoretical discourse is ice cold.

Real talk- A lot of folks invoking the end of Reconstruction as a historical reference are starting to sound like people trying to argue that a second nadir is inevitable. I understand sadness but, no. I will not give in to despair and fatalism. And neither should you.

Real talk - A lot of folks across the political spectrum don't consider the ethical and moral implications of the positions they take and the tactic they advocate for. This is why, when confronted with those implications, they crash out. Crashing out is easier than defending their position.

The moral and ethical question around which all interpretations of colorblind law orbit is this: Is only racism if the bigot calls me a racial slur before he discriminates against me or does it still count as racism if the bigot doesn't call me a racist slur before he discriminates against me?

The final obligation of any successful revolutionary movement, and the Civil Rights Movement was a revolutionary movement, is to pass on what it has learned. The first obligation of the young wanting to bring about change in society to to go to the archives drink deeply from the wisdom there.

It is important to point out how a lot of the Self-Described radical voices who have spent decades deriding the Voting rights Act as "compromise and incrementalism" have turned on a dime and are now talking about how important the Voting Rights Act was.

Historically speaking, Jim Crow was defeated by two laws. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

I get why everyone is talking about the nadir the end of reconstruction, but in the interest of keeping it 100.... It is not 1876, 1896, or even 1965. It is 2026 and the non-white population of the United States is about 42% compared to about 16% in 1969. Get your mind right.

Folks forget that ridicule is a perfectly valid response to bigotry. Bigots hate when you point out how deranged and silly their bigotry is because they know it but they are betting on no one pointing it out. As @jamellebouie.net says: bring back shame.

You can't read civil rights law to even know your rights if you can't read past a 6th grade level.

As a poli sci point, I think people are starting to realize that the left side of the political spectrum has a coalition problem and largely consists of groups that have deep resentments of each other from 2024. I don't know if folks are ready to face this reality waiting for them in 2028.

I have had great difficulty getting outlets to review my first book, given the subject matter being bigotry, and Liberal Currents gave it a good faith critical review. I know that I'm not alone in the knowledge that this is one of the few outlets where critical conversations are happening everyday

Killmonger is a colonizer to the extent that he destroys the herb, therefore, destroying Wakanda's primary cultural institution. The Black Panther literally accuses him of doing exactly what he accuses the colonial powers of doing.

If you accept that for bigots the act of engaging in bigotry is essential to how they understand "good" material conditions and that inflicting harm matters more to them than healthcare, education, and a living wage, what's going on in the culture becomes intelligible, sad, and terrifying.

Genocide is the most extreme manifestation of bigotry.

The greater evil is the greater evil for a reason. - Wisdom and warning from marginalized communities across time.

One of my intellectual and ethical laws is that I will never be a part of a ideology that believes in thought crimes. Why? Because dissent is absolutely critical to any form of liberation and is a fundamental human right. Dissent is the bedrock of being anti-authoritarian.

The reason that so many pundits, politicos, and politicians won't call a bigoted statement or action bigotry is because the moment something is identified as bigotry, there is an ethical obligation to confront it. Confrontation comes with a cost that they don't want to pay. So, they say nothing.

If you don't understand how gender shapes everything, including politics and economics, then you really don't understand the world. So much becomes intelligible when you consider what gender studies has to say.

I think that, from an ethical and moral point of view, it is critical to ask anyone who rejects harm reduction if they will actually experience the harm that they are maximizing or if the harm they are refusing to reduce is happening to a community they don't belong to. The answer tells you A LOT.

Something that is important for folks to remember about the No Kings protests is that they get organized in summer 2025 in response to a lack of 2017 style political protest and resistance activity. The goal was to spark a desire to engage in political resistance. To that end, no Kings succeed.

From a social movement theory point of view, the hostility that a grip of leftists have towards "normie liberals" is perplexing because if the left wants to be a player in American culture including politics, they need normie liberals to follow them and the clear hostility hinders that.
