Snow on the deck and a fly in the house. Springtime in Alaska. April is criminally cruel.

And this morning there’s a dusting of snow on our deck. As I was saying yesterday, April is the cruelest month in Interior Alaska. The only remedy is chocolate cookies for breakfast.

I ate my way through India twice on a steady diet of thalis. In Udaipur I had one so blindingly hot I was almost hallucinating. Along the canals near Alleppey it was served on a banana leaf. In Delhi it was a feast as varied as the urban cacophony surrounding the open air restaurant.

March is the best month of the year in Interior Alaska. Golden sunshine, seven more minutes of daylight every single day, and the trails in peak condition. April is the worst month of the year. Yeah, the daylight keeps growing, but the trails are rotting and there are always wet sloppy snowfalls.

I've been messaging back and forth with @lauritadianita.bsky.social about sexual assault in Alaska. We not only have the highest rate, we are 40% over 2nd place Arkansas. This needs to stop. As we move into election season, demand that your candidates offer policy proposals, not empty talk.

This sums it up. When Trump started bombing, the hawks squawked about how Iran started it in 1979. Not true. We started it in 1953. 1979 was what blowback looks like.
