We canceled our Disney+ and Hulu subs today. TV has afforded us lots of comfort + escapism in these tumultuous times, but we refuse to support companies that willingly capitulate to the thin-skinned Cheeto and his cronies.

Thanks to Jason +
@404media.co
for this reporting, which I found really affecting. Devoting time and attention to hobbies is such a wildly varied, human endeavor. It sucks that this senseless tariff BS is gonna rob so many folks of the pleasure + joy they find in them.

Please, please, please donât put blind links to X posts in your newsletters. I donât care how interesting, urgent +/or funny whatever youâre linking to is. Itâs immediately less so because itâs happening there. I never want to contribute even an iota of my attention to anything on there ever again.

In July of 1852, Frederick Douglass delivered one of the greatest speeches in US history. Today itâs often presented in abridged form, though, and skips what seems like a long-winded introduction. If you read the intro closely, however, thereâs an ingenious structure. THREADđđœ

When I teach South African history, students will ask me how South Africans of European descent or South Asian descent can call themselves African. I reply by asking them â mostly white & Black â how they can call themselves American.

100% this. A protest is a celebration of community. Show up. Look out for each other. Wave a sign. Go home feeling energized. Can they turn violent? Yes, and when they do itâs usually because of cops. But the vast majority of the time they donât. Be angry. Be disciplined.
