my new conspiracy theory: 1. Vercel lures me into Fluid compute with potential 85% cost savings 2. To use Fluid, an upgrade to 1 vCPU is required 3. My usage stays the same while Vercel charges me more for faster CPU we'll see at the cashier

quick notes to self after getting some idea replies to my problem: 1. hidden complexities of mature products 2. handling downgrades gracefully is building features for non-customers 3. maybe I can somehow simplify the offering to minimize this problem
