Fire Arrow is a pretty simplistic charge ability, but I like that it has that element of multiple use cases. It's only directly shown to light up torches, but you can also burn down a column of vines with it. Discovering that on your own is the way forward. #HertenHeld #Gamedev #indiedev

The statue here originally did not have a background character. It was inspired from a certain statue in Golden Sun. Though, when one of the testers made a funny remark about her, she became a character of her own. ...And ended up becoming broken in Fallen Star #HertenHeld #gamedev #indiedev

The Seed Bomb is probably my favorite item in the game. It can be used as an overhead throw, to cover enemies above and below, it can be placed down to be used as a trap, and it can be triggered faster when using an arrow. It's a great expansion to her arsenal. #HertenHeld #Gamedev #indiedev

Sometimes I like to make rooms where a specific enemy design can have it's spotlight for a moment. This room filled with ninja owls is one of them. #HertenHeld #gamedev #indiedev

And to be proud of effort, not just success, because effort is something you have influence over. Success is but a consequence of a lot of effort and a lot of luck.

Sometimes it's good to remember what makes you you in the first place. And be a bit proud of that.

One more aspect that I like: This little bridge. At this state you just cross the bridge, but there are elements up and down that you cannot reach, later on you reach a dead end, but the idea of the bridge implies that there's something up and down there. #HertenHeld #gamedev #indiedev

There were ideas of having an NPC to tell you where you need to go, but I left it out as I feel that lose sense of exploration and self-discovery If signs told you to go down platforms, then there was no curiousity, but without, players could get lost too. It's a tough balance #HertenHeld #gamedev

The Wolf enemies in HertenHeld were intended to be the most prominent ones. I had ideas to make them very smart and require combat skills to beat In practise they ended up been so aggressive that you're better off avoiding them, I guess that's another way to make them notable #HertenHeld #Gamedev

I like this hub area I made, it's the first save point you visit, and it's located at a pretty central spot. Whenever you come back here, you're stronger than you were before, and from here, you also access a new path you couldn't reach earlier. #HertenHeld #gamedev #indiedev

When you reach an item room, I like it that you get stuck in that room until you figured out how to use the item and found at least one use-case out of them. #Gamedev #HertenHeld

More #HertenHeld fun facts Similair how Metroid does the "Go Left first" trope, I tried doing something similar on my own way. The game starts out linear, but after the bridge, you reach a dead end. Once you try falling through the bridge, the game opens up with more paths to explore. #gamedev

I think we take a lot of game updates, even patches/balancing, for granted, maintaining such a thing also takes several dev's time and salary, for content that's basically for free. This goes for many indie games, but also games that don't support live service. It really makes me value them more.
