I was very happy to find this Tawny Mining Bee ‘village’ this week! 🐝🏡 There were countless volcano-like burrow entrances all up the side of this hill. I sat and watched the females going in and out of the nests for a long time.

I've become pretty interested in Diplurans recently, if it isn't obvious by some of my recent posts, and whenever I look for them in soil, I also come across springtails, mites, centipedes etc. Even just a patch of soil is swarming with life and I genuinely love that.

Something that I like is that pretty much everywhere on this planet, there is life. Even the places with the most extreme conditions, still have at least one species that has adapted to living there. I think that's pretty cool.

What an absolute stunner, Lomechusa emarginata, a myrmecophile that migrates between Myrmica ants in the winter to Formica sp. in the spring. This one in Myrmica nest in dry cow dung. #Staphylinidae #Coleoptera #Nottinghamshire
