Came across several of these in our fields this afternoon, think I have only seen one before, about 10 years ago. We normally have plenty of field mushrooms and bay boletus, but haven't seen any so far this year. Looking forward to chicken forestiere this evening!

Telephone wires and air around the house full with swallows this morning, normally have about 20 but this morning massed gathering of over 150 (the picture is just a section of them perching on the wire). It will be sad to see them go but will look forward to their return in the spring.

Having lunch in the garden next to a large fuchsia alive with bumble bees of at least two different species species, it has been a very popular bush with them over the past few weeks and with plenty of flowers yet to open.
