"A human would sign their work" feels like the craziest "it uses em dashes therefore it's AI" detective work ever. I only ever remember to sign like 3% of my work. And 3% is a generous guess. It may only be 1%. It fewer.

Are any boat people familiar with Pacific islands war canoes able to explain to me how (or even if) these drop sail? I assume they must but I've never seen one in operation. Do the sails adhere to the main mast or the boom or neither? Trying to draw one stopped in the ocean and want accuracy.

An hour into Rabbit, Run and I kind of hate it. Not the book, the book is well-written and well-realized, but I loathe this callow protagonist, I hate being in his presence. I believe this is by Updike's intent, that we read about a heel, that we understand him. But I do not enjoy the sensation.

Accidentally went on Threads and saw this. And all I thought was that all of this umbrella-ing was just a prop for Tom Holland to do a hot wet dance to impress Zendaya and all of us.

This question is interesting less so in the overt (with people picking their favorites and not imagining that culture could shift or that anything in the next 100 years could supplant their favs in the critical consensus), but in the tangentials.

Headlines are so aggravating. I wanted to read of Brown's clear-eyes reincarnation zealotry, but her quotes make it clear that she thinks she was *probably* a soldier who *may have* been killed with a sword to the spine and she *hopes* that she was a closeted gay man. So that was a let down.

Most of my friends and family have read my kids books, but very few have read my comics or other writing. My wife's read maybe half my stuff. My kids have almost no idea what I spend my time on.

My 8yo is hooked on @jacobgeller.com. I got this book a couple weeks ago and haven't gotten a chance to read it yet bc he's always holed up with it on the couch. He complains often, however, that it does include Geller's essay, Great Of Big Things Underwater, which he's watched around ten times.

We asked the kids our annual questions the other night: FAVORITE BOOK? 17yo: Ovid's Metamorphosis, later amended to Herodotus 14yo: Dante's Inferno 8yo: Magic Treehouse + How To Train Your Dragon series + those Legend Of Zelda hardback lorebooks 6yo: Mercy Watson (some book about a pig?)
