Always keep 'em guessing. Saturday we stopped by Late Night Ball, an initiative designed to create safe alternatives during hours when violence is most likely to occur, with Project sWISH. We are investing in safe, welcoming public spaces for our young people to gather.

Out of all the hats I wear, Dad will always be my favorite title. What I want for my children is safe communities, fully funded schools, and a government that believes in them and sees them, is what I want for all of our children across Chicago.

Crime is down in Chicago. We are grateful for this progress, but we know there is more to do. I want to thank our police officers, first responders, violence intervention workers, and community organizations who all worked hard this weekend keeping Chicagoans safe.

Trump’s America doesn’t work, for working families. His war against public accommodations and hard fought civil liberties is a disgrace. Threatening to strip away support from Chicagoans is a slap in the face to everything we hold dear.

I love being a dad and spending time with my kids. My children are a consistent reminder of why we must continue to fight for a better, stronger, safer Chicago. Our children are counting on us; we can’t and we won’t let them down!

I had the pleasure to sit down with Gary Lewis, Founder of IAmDad365, to talk about fatherhood & mental health. As a Black man and father, I’m highly aware of the emotional labor and silence of mental trauma that burdens our Black fathers and young men.

Excited to spend the day in St. Louis, rallying support with my sister Mayor Tishaura Jones. As the first Black woman to be elected mayor of St. Louis, her leadership is not only historic but a testament to what can be achieved if we continue to work and fight for progressive values in our cities.

Public education is one of the greatest victories of our nation’s history. Trump defunding education is nothing more than an attempt to break our spirits and deny working families a public accommodation they deserve.

This President is off. Gutting the department of education is an attack on the American people. We must fund our public education system—the evolution of our democracy has been dependent on an educated citizenry. Our children deserve our investment.

Can’t wait to watch some March Madness this weekend — I love the U of I’s squad but I see Duke going all the way on the men’s side. For the women’s tourney, I think it’ll be South Carolina. Meanwhile, I’ll just be over here working on my jump shot!
